
Gili Trawangan is the largest of the three small islands located at the northwest of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. With a length of 3 km and width of 2 km, Gili Trawangan has approximately 800 inhabitants. Among those three islands, Trawangan has the most facilities for tourism. There’s even a bar called “Tir na Nôg” claims that Trawangan is the smallest island in the world that has an Irish bars. The most densely populated is the east part of the island.

Trawangan has shades more popularity than the other two -Gili Meno and Gili Air, because there are many all-night parties held every night on different locations. Popular activity for tourists in Trawangan is scuba diving (PADI certified), snorkeling (on northeast coast), kayaking, and surfing. There are also several places for horse riding around the island.

The charm of Gili Trawangan(and also the other two Gilis) not only on the beauty of beaches and underwater gardens, but also on the daily lives of its local populations. The local people which are mostly from Sasak and Bugis Tribe uphold the rule of ‘Awing-awing’, as there can be no motorized vehicles. They use bicycles and cidomo -a horse-drawn carriage-, for daily transportation. But they still use motorboat and speedboat to travel to and from those three islands.


Almost in every inn or cottage in this island offers snorkeling equipments. Gilitrawangan is indeed a paradise for diver. And there are always tourists, international or domestic that visit it all year round.

So prepare to sit back, relax and get yourself in the island’s laid-back lifestyle. No need to rush a holiday on this island, as leaving is the last thing you’ll want.
